Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your child to the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School website and I hope you will find here all the information you need.

As a Catholic school our mission is based upon the value and respect of every person as an individual. By following in the footsteps of Jesus, we aim to make the ‘heart, mind and spirit soar’. In order to achieve this, we expect high standards of behaviour and we promote the building of solid relationships between all individuals so that they remain happy and confident to work independently. Our Catholic ethos and values permeate through all areas of school life and we are privileged to play a part in helping all of the children develop and grow into confident, caring, respectful outward-looking individuals who, in turn, value one another as children of God.  Pastoral care is very important to us and children are nurtured into becoming successful, independent and confident learners.

At St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School, we offer a varied curriculum which is further enhanced by extra-curricular activities and clubs.  Sport and music are very important to us and we offer many opportunities for children to take part in a variety of sport and musical activities.

Our links with Bee Active deliver high quality teaching to the children and training to the staff and consequently we are very proud of our sporting reputation within the city and the county!

Children also have the opportunity to develop their musical talents in many ways though our links with the City Music and Performing Arts Service. We have a large number of children who participate in musical tuition including Songbirds, Youth Choir, recorders, whole class ukulele lessons, woodwind, brass and strings. Children take part in national events such as Young Voices, as well as city and school concerts.

We value our relationship with parents and foster our home-school links through a variety of ways: parents are always welcome to attend our school masses, class assemblies (each class has one per term), workshops and events.

Parents are invited to attend two open evenings per year and in addition, there are open sessions where parents are invited into the classroom to observe teaching and learning taking place. Newsletters are sent home regularly in order to keep parents informed of events and issues within school.

Induction and transition meetings are also held in order to keep parents well informed and there is an opportunity every morning to speak to the Headteacher or a member of the support team at the door as children come into school.

Choosing a primary school for your child is one of the most important and difficult decisions you will have to make.  It is our aim that this website will provide you with the information you will need to help inform your decision. You will find our Mission Statement, a copy of our school prospectus and information about the curriculum standards and provision.

Whilst I hope you find this information useful, there can be no substitute for a personal visit and you are openly invited to visit St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School, by prior arrangement, where you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S Moorhouse
